BELOW IS THE TEXT OF THE LETTER SENT OUT TO THE COMMUNITY:

I would like to announce the creation of the Anne Arundel Mental Health Alliance (AAMHA). The purpose of this alliance is to bring together a diverse group of mental health professionals: therapists, social workers, psychologists, academicians and psychiatrists. AAMHA will serve us all, individually, professionally, and socially, as well providing services and education to the community we serve.

EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENT:  Presentations will be scheduled on a multiple topics according to the specialized bodies of knowledge we each will bring to the Alliance. Presentations will be internal, for our own didactic purposes, and external for the lay-community and professionals in other fields.

PROFESSIONAL:  The Alliance meetings will be an opportunity to network and get to know those to whom we are referring and those from whom we are receiving referrals. Our patients as well as our practices will benefit and new referral sources will be cultivated and nurtured.

SOCIAL EVENTS:  Events, whether for drinks or food or dance (who knows?), will be scheduled regularly at various venues as determined by the elected leadership team and the membership.

SERVICE-ORIENTED:  As part of our mission, we will use our various skills to give back to the community at-large. This may take many forms of grassroots care, and will be a great benefit to all.

I want to make joining and attending functions as painless as possible. I therefore created a Meetup for AAMHA, which is a FREE online method of organizing groups. The advantages of using Meetups are that they are FREE to join; they are largely automated, insofar as RSVPs for events are automatically tallied and can be changed by members, at will, if they change their minds; waiting lists for events, should they be necessary, are automatically maintained and ordered; people can say “maybe” if they just don’t know; dissemination of information is also FREEto and between members; bulletin boards can be created for professional or social topics of discussion; and should an event involve a fee (for example, if a venue we choose requires a deposit or carries a fee), it can be easily and securely collected on the site using standard payment methods, such as credit cards or PayPal.

So please, at your earliest convenience, go to www.aamha.net and register your name and your practice! It is easy. It is FREE. It will bring you closer to the local community of mental health providers.  It will enhance your practice and your career.  It will broaden the minds of, and provide for the mental health of our entire community. Once registered, please pass this along to a colleague!

Please go to the new site, www.aamha.net, and join now.  By joining the site now, you will begin to receive notices of lectures and other events as they occur. You will not be spammed.  You will have access to the bulletin board to network, start discussions, or propose new Meetups. Did I mention that it is FREE???

I hope to meet each of you soon and look forward to making AAMHA and this site and success!
